|Tommy and Me the week after saying our "I do's" in 1997.|
For the past six months, I have scoured the internet searching for ideas for our wedding and having done so, I have learned a lot about myself and my style. The biggest revelation has been that my taste is very contradictory. I love rustic and country, and yet adore elegance and all things vintage.
Tommy's style is a lot more simple. He's redneck to the bone. In other words, if it comes in camo, he'll take two.
Needless to say, finding a balance that reflects our individual styles has been quite difficult.
Early on in my search for the perfect dress, I found one online at David's Bridal that I loved. I looked the web over looking - literally at thousands of other dresses, but still couldn't get that one dress out of my mind. Not having a David's Bridal nearby, it being considerably out of my price range, and the fact that I had recently lost 55 pounds, I couldn't bring myself to buy it. I was afraid of purchasing the wrong size. I hated to spend that much on a dress. But still.. it was "the one". So about a month ago, I found the same dress on eBay for less than half the price. It was in my new size. I took a chance and ordered it. It fits like it was made just for me. And in my opinion, it is the most beautiful wedding dress I have ever seen.
Tommy was at work when it arrived. I quickly ran to my bedroom to try it on without telling the kids. I put it on and looked in the mirror and for the first time ever - I felt like a bride. There was a knock on my bedroom door. I opened it to find my oldest son who was quite taken aback not expecting to see me in a wedding gown. "Wow, " was his only word. He called his siblings to come see. My only daughter walked to the door and immediately tears came to her eyes. She said, "Momma, I couldn't understand why you liked this dress so much online, but seeing it on you, I get it. It's perfect!" Then my three sons took turns twirling me about telling me how beautiful it looked. It was the most perfect moment and one I wouldn't trade for anything!

I do think that my wedding dress merges our styles into one beautiful dress. I can't wait to wear it for my husband on our big day.
